Thank you for coming to the Parent / Guardian Registration page for the home test of SparkSense.com. Here you will register yourself and your child(ren) and provide us some background information. You were sent a complete description of the project which you can review here.

Here are the basics:

• The project is run by TERC, Inc. and SparkSense.com, Inc. and is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

• The home test will help us design SparkSense so it is interesting, challenging, fun and easy to use.

• Students will do at least 10 SparkSense challenges and will complete a short 5 question quiz after each one. They will also take a short online survey about what they liked and disliked about using the site.

• We also track what kids do while using the SparkSense website and activities.

• Parents and guardians will complete a survey about their own use of the site.

• We don’t use real names to track students and their parents / guardians. We use code numbers instead.

• We report results of the test to the NSF, in publications in print and online, and at professional meetings. Our reports, papers, and presentations will never use real names.

• Families who complete the home test and submit all the surveys and quizzes will receive a $25 gift card redeemable at most retail stores.

• You can choose whether or not to be part of the SparkSense home test. You can stop participating at any time.

• You can contact TERC staff if you have any questions about this project or study.
